$26 million. That's the Series B that just went to a Sydney software company most people have never heard of, for a job the industry assumed required steel and copper.

The grid has roughly three-quarters of its capacity sitting unused at any given moment. The old answer was to build more of it. The new answer, and the one catching money, is software that finds the spare room and uses it.

🎯

Gridsight raised $26M Series B led by Insight Partners to scale AI-driven grid capacity management.

Endeavour Energy doubled household solar export from 5 kW to 10 kW using the platform, unlocking 600+ MW of capacity and an estimated $100M+ in customer value.

The bet: the cheapest new grid capacity is the capacity that already exists, if a model can see it and a utility can act on it in real time.

As we wrote in September, AI models are becoming the grid's forecasting layer. Gridsight is the next layer down: not predicting demand, but mapping exactly where the existing network can safely carry more.

## The problem software can finally touch

Electricity demand grew slowly for fifteen years, then stopped being polite about it. Data centers, electric vehicles, heat pumps and rooftop solar all landed on the same aging distribution networks at once.

Building new transmission and distribution is slow and expensive. Regulators, watching interconnection queues stretch to years, are shifting incentives toward making better use of what already stands.

That's the opening Gridsight walked into.

## How the model works

Gridsight builds what it calls a Foundational Grid Model. It is a utility-specific model that pulls fragmented network data into a single, continuously updated view, then combines that data with electrical physics.

Its AI agents find where a grid has unused capacity, replacing the conservative, worst-case assumptions utilities have historically used to set connection and export limits.

Gridsight is already an integral part of how our Distribution teams operate and plan, turning data our network produces into intelligence our engineers can act on, said Todd Conner, senior vice president of electric distribution at Xcel Energy.

## The Endeavour result

The clearest proof came in Australia, where the company was founded in 2020\. Endeavour Energy deployed Gridsight's platform for real-time solar management and doubled static household solar export from 5 kW to 10 kW, paired with dynamic control to protect the local grid.

That one move unlocked more than 600 MW of additional solar capacity and an estimated $100 million-plus in customer value, largely from households and businesses that can now export power instead of having it curtailed.

Australia leads the world in rooftop solar adoption, and Endeavour is at the forefront, said Endeavour Energy CEO Danny Cooper. Gridsight has been an invaluable strategic partner since 2021.

## From Sydney to the US grid

The Series B, announced September 1, is led by Insight Partners, a software investor with more than $90 billion in regulatory assets. Galvanize joined, alongside existing backers Airtree, Energy Transition Ventures and Aera VC.

Named US utility customers already include Xcel Energy and United Illuminating, an Avangrid subsidiary. The round pushes Gridsight's total funding to roughly $33.5 million, following a $7.5 million Series A in 2025.

The energy transition is stress-testing utility networks in ways they were never designed to handle, said Rachel Geller, managing director at Insight Partners. Gridsight provides the intelligence, visibility and control needed to unlock latent capacity.

## The turning point

What changed is that grid software stopped being a reporting tool and became an operating layer.

Gridsight's platform gives utilities a dynamic, decision-ready view of what their networks can carry, where and when, and the tools to act on it in real time.

The grid's capacity challenge is not uniform, said Brendan Banfield, Gridsight's co-founder and CEO. For the majority of the year, significant capacity exists. But it is uneven, dynamic and geographically dependent.

## What the money says

This is not an isolated bet. New York is running a $24 million program funding similar grid-enhancing technologies. The direction is consistent: the cheapest capacity is the capacity already in the ground.

## Why the economics line up

Interconnection queues are the real bottleneck. Grid operators are drowning in requests, and in some markets a utility-scale storage or generation project waits years to connect. Software that safely releases existing capacity sidesteps that wait entirely.

That is why the financing math works. A platform that doubles export headroom on an existing network produces value without the multi-year timeline and billion-dollar price tag of a new transmission line. The customer pays a software subscription, not a construction bill.

For a principal weighing this space, the distinction matters. Grid-enhancing software is not competing with hardware on performance. It is competing on time and cost, and it wins on both because the asset is already built.

The risk is honest. Utilities are cautious buyers, and grid software still has to prove it can hold up at the scale of a national operator, not just one network in New South Wales. The US expansion, with Xcel and United Illuminating already live, is the test the company has chosen to run.

Gridsight's customers span Australia, New Zealand, the United States and the UK. The new capital goes to US expansion and continued growth at home.

The scale of this is worth holding on to. One utility, one software deployment, doubled solar export and freed 600 megawatts. The grid's spare room is large. Software just learned how to see it.
